We are extremely proud of our mares here at MHS. We began our breeding career by traveling to Wales and hand selecting three fillies that we felt had the bloodlines, type, and the "look" that we wanted to produce in our foals. We had chosen Minyffordd Megastar already, so we kept him in mind as we made our selections, pouring over pedigrees, going to shows, and doing our historical research. We had the help of Milton and Anna Jones of Minyffordd Stud, and also India Haynes of Waterford Stud. We owe them a great big thank you for assisting us in not only finding the gems we were seeking, but convincing the breeders to part with them to be shipped "across the pond" to "the colonies". We later, after taking a five year hiatus from breeding, purchased two registered paint mares for crossbreeding. Now, with Trefaes Belladonna returning from Solstice Welsh Cobs on a breeding lease, all of our original Welsh Cobs have come home. Our lovely Haighmoor Brenhines, who passed away, is being represented by her Megastar daughter, MHS Brianna. The pastures are full and we feel so blessed!
2012 imported mare
Danaway Flash Jack x Danaway Ribbon x Tireinon Triple Crown
Dragonfly is one of our newest imported welsh cobs and we just love her. At three this year, she is maturing into the lovely full bodied, exquisitely headed mare that we envisioned from her photos and videos when we first discovered her. She has a very elegant neck and great movement. She is loving and gentle.
Teifi Judy Jazz
2014 WPCSA American National Supreme Champion Welsh!!!
JJ is by Dimbeth Sion (Parc Dafydd x Parc Primrose x Parc Welsh Flyer) out of Gwenllan Tirion (full sister to Gwenllan Brynmor and Deio). We are very privileged to have the opportunity to own this mare. We feel there is no better choice of a mare to cross with Megastar to produce the true to type cob with extravagant movement. Dimbeth Sion and Gwenllan Tirion are both outstanding examples of conformation and movement, Sion being the only Welsh Cob in history to win the ridden and driven classes at the Royal Welsh. JJ has the look and movement of her parents. She has produced three fantastic foals for us by Megastar, with her two year old filly winning Reserve Champion Welsh Cob at the 2014 OKWPS and Tulsa State Fair Show. Thank you to Stuart Lloyd of Teifi Stud and Clare Willis Burton of Pentrefelin Stud for making our dream reality. Better photos and video will be posted soon.
Trefaes Velvet Royale
Trefaes Velvet Royale
(Rotherdale Rhodri x Trefaes True Velvet x Fronarth Victor)
We imported Velvet from Wales as a yearling. She is named after a drink, a Velvet Royale, which is champagne and Guinness. I am not sure about the combo, but the description of a welsh cob mare is "the head of a duchess and the backside of a barmaid" and I think we hit it dead on with Velvet. (Thank you Trefaes Stud for letting us name her!) The photos below are as a two year old. We will be updating this spring in her third year. She in foal to Minyffordd Megastar for 2016.
Octavia is an exciting mare for us...the first we have gotten here at MHS from Megan and Megastar, and of incredibly fine welsh quality. She is foal number 8 for Megan, and thus the name, Octavia, following our Megan "O" theme. She is "pony, pony, pony" in type, has fine movement, and she has been doing very well in dressage and qualified for and competed in the 2014 USDF Nationals in Lexington, KY! She is in training currently with Bobby Murray and Sarah Watson of Freeport Equestrian in Freeport, Maine. She is offered for sale to the right home. $35,000
Here are some of her dressage scores.

Derwen Desert Express x Geler Sali x Parc Welsh Flyer
We were very proud to be the first American breeders to be given the honor of owning a Geler-bred Welsh Cob. The Geler Stud is a very old and respected stud farm in Wales. The Lloyd family of Geler Stud consistently has produced winning stock in both in hand competition and performance for many years. Geler Megan is a lovely mare who has had ten gorgeous purebred foals. She has presented us with three colts and a filly since coming home. Megan seems to be ageless, looking much the same at 18 years after 10 foals as she did at 3 years before any foals.
Cathedine Flying Express x Trefaes Bellflower
Belle was the first chosen of our imported mares. She arrived as a yearling right after winning 7th at the Royal Welsh, and promptly won Supreme Champion Welsh at the 1994 WPCSA American National Show in Tulsa, OK. Belle is an all round gorgeous mare, but she has one of the most breathtakingly beautiful front ends I have personally ever seen on a Welsh Cob. It is just so elegant! She has been incredible in the show ring, both in hand and under saddle, for us and for Mike Smith and Lynda Gillen Smith. It is great to have her back at the ranch and, truth be told, we are desperately hoping that she will give us another Starbucks or Starburst! We took photos of Belle in Oct 2010. They are the first 12 photos after the large photo. She is 23 this year and had a colt with Minyffordd Megastar via embryo transfer! We are so excited about him! We have two embryos from Belle in surrogates for next spring, one by Minyffordd Megastar and one by Megastar's son out of Teffi Judy Jazz, MHS Mega Jazz.
Fronarth Victor x Taybog Ceridwen
Our beautiful Brenhines was one of our very carefully selected imported Welsh Cob mares. She presented us with one gorgeous filly after another; Mynydd Hir Boneddiges, Mynydd Hir Moorea, and MHS Brianna. She was 9 months pregnant with her first colt when she died suddenly of Salmonella, the source of which we have never discovered. We were heartbroken and still miss her. Sometimes I glimpse Starburst galloping across a pasture and think it is Bria. Although she is no longer grazing in our fields, she will always be in our hearts and on our webpage.
Minyffordd Megastar x Astari Primadonna
Starbound is an 8 year old registered Welsh/Arabian mare bred by Mike Smith and Lynda Gillen Smith of Solstice Welsh. She was Megastar's final foal for them out of a really breathtaking Arabian mare, Astari Primadonna. We purchased her as a yearling and are really pleased with how she is maturing. She has lovely movement, very nice conformation, a gorgeous head, and that "Megastar look" about her. She is well started under saddle, going nicely at all gaits, showing in dressage and hunter, and is going out on the trail. We think she will make an incredible english pleasure/hunter, and would be a wonderful competitive trail horse. She is registered half arabian and is sweepstakes nominated. This girl has great potential in the show ring. The sport horse in hand judges love her! Contact us for price. New video to come soon.
Sonny's Chubby Bars (APHA)
a.k.a. Mirabelle, this is a lovely registered paint mare that we purchased when Megastar came home a few years ago. She has given us three really fine welsh/paint colts. Her foals, in our opinion, have the best of both breeds, and will excel in just about any discipline. She is available to a responsible breeder for a few more foals. Her purebred paint offspring have been 15.1-15.3hh even though Mirabelle is 14.3hh. The photos do her no justice, by the way.
Jet Top (APHA)
Jetta came to us a few years ago. She has had 6 foals that we know of, five of them paints or pintos, and one solid sorrel. She has produced palomino tobiano, black tobiano, bay tobiano, and sorrel (chestnut) tobiano. Our two foals from Megastar are both pinto. We think she is wonderful and is such a good mom. Our deepest thanks to Tommy and Shannon Eubanks for letting her become part of our family.
